Update: We are devastated to announce that “Dumbo” has passed away. The campaign calling for his freedom from Phuket Zoo revealed his skeletal body to the world, which raised concerns that he was ill: movinganimals.org/savedumbo It now turns out that he had an infection in his digestive tract, and he became so weak that his back legs snapped beneath him. Despite this, the zoo did not realise his legs were broken for three days, until the baby elephant was finally taken to an elephant hospital. . For “Dumbo” to die whilst under the so-called “care” and “treatment” of the zoo shows just how neglected these animals are in captivity. We want to thank everyone for their overwhelming support for “Dumbo”. We hope that “Dumbo” is now finding the peace that he was so cruelly denied in his lifetime, and that his tragic story will urge Thai authorities to finally put an end to outdated animal performances. . “Dumbo”, Phuket Zoo, March 2019. Rest in Peace.

“We watched as tourists laughed and took selfies, while the baby elephant stood with his eyes closed, quietly sucking his trunk.” . We’re completely overwhelmed by the support and compassion this baby elephant has received over the last few days. Over 50,000 individuals have spoken out calling for his release to a sanctuary, and international media outlets including the likes of @the.independent @dailymail @thesun @dailymirror @unilad @ladbible @thethaigernews @nieuwsblad @metro.co.uk & @larepubblica have reported on the photographs and footage captured, helping to spread awareness. If you haven’t already, please join us in calling for “Dumbo’s” release to a sanctuary: movinganimals/savedumbo (link in bio). No animal should spend their life performing for tourist “entertainment”. . Phuket Zoo, Thailand, 2019 | Moving Animals
